Taxpayers located in wildfire counties get tax return filing extension

The IRS has announced that individuals and households who reside or have a business in the following California counties where wildfires were located and who previously filed to extend their filing date for their individual income tax returns to October 15, 2020 automatically receive an additional extension of time to file until December 15, 2020.

  • Lake
  • Monterey
  • Napa
  • San Mateo
  • Santa Clara
  • Santa Cruz
  • Solano
  • Sonoma
  • Yolo

The extension doesn’t apply to the payment of their balance due for their income taxes, which was due on July 15, 2020.

The extension also applies to certain other payments and tax forms.
